Acousmo is a concert and sound art series focused on intentional listening. It offers a space for concentrated engagement with live sound and aims to counter the fast and superficial consumption of music. In this cycle, Acousmo introduces a new format: each evening begins with two solo performances by musicians or sound artists that are curated by the community. These are followed by an improvised set where both artists perform together.

Tapiwa Svosve (ZH)

(born 1995) is a saxophonist and electroacoustic musician living and working in Zurich and London. He has released work through Graham Dunning’s Open Sound Group net label and Raw Tonk Records, and was part of “The Tomorrow People“ exhibition at the Elevator Gallery in 2013. He is especially interested in the relations between sound and space and the electronic and/or physical manipulation and abstraction of acoustic sounds, creating different overlapping layers of small electroacoustic systems. 

Ayat Metwali (BE)

Aya Metwalli (*1988) ist eine ägyptische Sängerin, Improvisatorin und Komponistin, bekannt für ihren meisterhaften Gesang in mikrotonalen arabischen Maqam. Aufgewachsen in Kairo, prägte sie eine reiche Tradition klassischer arabischer Musik. Nach ersten Schritten mit Klavier und Gitarre begann sie, eigene Musik zu komponieren und sammelte mit Online-Veröffentlichungen eine treue Fangemeinde. Seit 2015 lebt sie im Libanon und ist in der experimentellen Elektronik- und Free-Improv-Szene aktiv. Ihre Musik verbindet arabische Traditionen mit avantgardistischen Klangwelten, geprägt von düsteren, atmosphärischen Synthesizer-Texturen.

Aya hat auf internationalen Festivals wie der Jazzwerkstatt (Schweiz), Tectonics (Griechenland) und Irtijal (Libanon) gespielt. Sie arbeitete mit Ensembles wie den Neuen Vocalsolisten Stuttgart und war Teil renommierter Kunstprojekte wie Nicolas Jaars Installation Retaining the Energy, but Losing the Image. Neben der Musik hat sie eine tänzerische Ausbildung und wirkte in Theaterstücken des libanesischen Choreografen Ali Chahrour mit. Derzeit arbeitet Aya an ihrem ersten Studioalbum und experimentiert weiterhin mit Live-Performance und Improvisation.
